Technical Host: Daniele Alves
TOPIC: Tabletop experiments for quantum gravity
Abstract
Recent advances in cooling, control, and measurement of mechanical systems in the quantum regime have opened the possibility of the first direct observation of quantum gravity, at scales achievable in experiments. I'll give a broad overview of this idea, discussing a representative set of experiments and how they can be used to test various models of the gravitational field coupled to quantum matter. Particular attention will be paid to perturbatively quantized general relativity viewed as an effective field theory.
