TOPIC: Bose statistics and classical fields
Abstract
Statistical properties of multiparticle quantum systems are at the heart of statistical physics. Experiments on Bose-Einstein condensation revived interest in statistical properties of weakly interacting bosons. Atoms are much harder than photons. They interact and their number is strictly conserved. I will review the last 15 years of progress in this area. I will explain a novel application of Monte Carlo methods, combined with the so-called classical fields approximation, to study temperature-dependent properties of a cold Bose gas.
