TOPIC: Taming Atoms with Light

Abstract
Neutral atoms are considered a promising physical system for applications of quantum properties, e.g., for quantum sensors and for information processing. An essential criterion is to control as many degrees of freedom of atomic many body systems as tightly as possible. In our laboratory, we are developing the art of taming individual neutral atoms with light as basic building blocks for quantum information processing. For shaping the required light field, we have also developed novel fibre concepts.
