TOPIC: Decoherence and control of single central spins in solid state systems
Abstract
Understanding decoherence of quantum spin systems coupled to a
bath of environmental spins (spin bath) is important for many
areas of physics, such as spintronics, quantum computing, nuclear
and electronic magnetic resonance. We have developed highly
efficient and accurate numerical techniques for studying
decoherence in quantum many-spin systems, including novel
approaches based on techniques borrowed from quantum optics. We
used these techniques to model several experimentally important
situations: decoherence of an electron spin by a bath of nuclear
spins in a quantum dot, which demonstrates interesting
decoherence regime; decoherence and decay of Rabi oscillations in
dipolar-coupled systems, such as NV centers in diamond; and
modeling of NMR experiments with thousands of spins involved
in the decoherence process.
