Locality, Correlations, and Entanglement in Quantum Ground States

Abstract

This talk will be a blackboard talk reviewing recent work on possible correlations and entanglement in quantum systems with local interactions and a spectral gap. The local interactions lead to a Lieb-Robinson bound, a powerful bound on the spread of information across the system over time. After discussing the bound, I will show how the bound leads to exponential decay of correlations in these systems. I will then apply these results to describe the change in the ground state under external perturbations, and discuss applications to matrix product states and simulation of quantum systems.
