Quantum Imaging
Abstract
Quantum imaging, or ``coincidence imaging" using entangled photon states, will be discussed in the context of two-photon downconversion. Several basic questions, some of them only incidental to quantum imaging as such, will be addressed:
(1) What is the physical basis for the classical "Rayleigh limit" of resolution, and can this limit be overcome?
(2) Why does the nonlinear crystal in downconversion act like a point source?
(3) Is phase matching really the same as momentum conservation, as `everyone' says?
(4) To what extent is downconversion with retroreflection analogous to cavity QED?
(5) How does quantum imaging work, does it really require entanglement, and can this kind of imaging be done with classical light?
