TOPIC: Quantum magnets: Bosonic behavior, condensation and magneto-electric effects

Abstract
In certain quantum magnets, the spin system can be mapped onto bosons, resulting in a variety of bosonic behaviors including a type of Bose-Einstein condensation, Bose glasses and boson crystallization. In this Quantum Lunch I will review recent experiments on Bose-Einstein Condensation in quantum magnets. I will discuss some interesting aspects such as how quantum fluctuations can be detected through their renormalization of the boson mass. Finally I will discuss the topological defects that can form in these materials, and magneto-electric/multiferroic effects.
